Cover all funeral costs under one affordable plan! Rates as low as $1/Day. Find the right plan for you!

It's not something most people want to think about, but planning for funeral and burial expenses now can bring peace of mind not only to you but also to your loved ones when the time comes. The first step is to determine what your wishes are, whether that be full burial services or cremation. The next is to add burial insurance to your financial plan.

How Does Burial Insurance Work?

Burial Insurance policies are a special type of life insurance, usually whole life insurance. This means that as long as your premiums are paid, the insurance will be there throughout your entire lifetime. You designate anyone you want as the beneficiary who will see to your final wishes.

The Top Burial Insurance Companies

Burial Insurance rates can vary, and not all insurance companies carry these types of policies. Some rates are as low as $1/day. Here are the top ten providers:

1. AARP

AARP, although not an insurance company itself, partners with New York Life to provide various insurance policies to its members. The AARP burial policy has guaranteed acceptance, which means you cannot be turned down, even if you have pre-existing health issues. You must be an AARP member and be between 50 and 80. Coverage amounts can be up to $25,000.

2. Globe Life

If you're looking for cheap burial insurance, Globe Life Insurance is rated one of the best when it comes to low premium rates. Your first month will cost you $1, and depending upon your selected level of coverage, premiums can start out at $3.49. Burial Policy coverage amounts can be between $5,000 to $50,000.

3. Mutual of Omaha

Mutual of Omaha offers the smallest burial insurance policies for those who are planning for cremation or a small funeral service. Policy amounts start at $2,000.

4. AIG

AIG goes beyond burial and funeral expenses in their burial policy. They also include help if you are diagnosed with a terminal or chronic illness.

5. Colonial Penn

Most burial insurance policies are only offered to those who are at least 50 years old. Colonial Penn differs in this regard by providing additional options for different ages.

6. Fidelity Life

Fidelity Life promotes a simple process with its RAPIDecision set of insurance products. These include a RAPIDecision Final Expense policy for those aged 50 to 85, with coverage amounts between $5,000 and $35,000. Coverage can begin in 24 hours.

7. Assurity Life

Burial Insurance coverage is available for anyone from birth to age 80, with coverage amounts ranging anywhere from $5,000 to $50,000. Assurity does consider pre-existing conditions when they determine your rates, however, but strive to maintain an affordable premium.

8. Transamerica

Unlike the other burial insurance policies on this list, Transamerica's Immediate Solution burial policy requires no waiting, and you receive full coverage immediately. Coverage amounts range between $1,000 and $55,000.

9. Foresters

For smaller burial insurance policies, Foresters offers three variations, which depend on how soon you want full death benefits to be available. Coverage amounts range between $2,000 and $35,000. Foresters also offers its policyholders a free lawyer consultation and basic will.

10. Gerber

Gerber's burial policies can be for coverage amounts between $5,000 and $25,000 for those aged 50 through 80. You are allowed to borrow against the cash value of the policy as well.
